The school doors DO NOT open until 7:30 A.M.! The Baker-Koonce Intermediate school day is from 7:45 A.M. to 3:25 P.M.
If you drop your child off BEFORE 7:30 A.M., please note that they are sitting on the porch unattended! School employees are allowed to drop off their children before 7:30 A.M. so that they can get to their respective campuses on time.
Please do not drop your children off in the parking lot in the morning and expect them to cross moving traffic. This is dangerous and unacceptable. We prefer that everyone pull through the car rider line, as this is the safest method of drop-off.
If you choose to not pull through the car rider line, you must drop your child off on the same side of the street as the school! Children are NOT allowed to cross the street or moving traffic! Again, we prefer that you pull through the car rider line!
If you are picking up a child in the car rider line after school, we ask that you have a red car rider tag hanging from the rear-view mirror of the car. This is a safety measure, and it helps the flow of traffic tremendously.
Students who walk off campus during dismissal time must have a signed permission form on file in the Main Office.
“Pick-up” list...The names that you provide on the “Pick-Up List” are people you are giving permission to pick your child up from school! It will be YOUR responsibility to change the names if you choose to add someone to or remove someone from the list! Any changes to this list must be done by the parent or guardian and these changes must be done in the BK Office!
If you MUST check your child out early, PLEASE do so BEFORE 2:45 P.M.! Any changes to a child’s way of going home need to also be done by 2:45 P.M. each day. Changes made after this time are often difficult to get to the teachers as they begin the dismissal process at 3:15 P.M.
We prefer that ANY changes to a child’s way of going home be done in writing! You can fax any changes to our office at 903-693-5948, you can send a note with your child, or you can come into the office and make the change in person. If faxing a change to the office, please call the office to ensure that the fax was received!
Once you decide your child’s regular way of going home each day, try to stick with that schedule. Making changes is not only confusing to your child, but it also becomes difficult for the teachers to manage.
Please try to get your child to school on time as instruction begins immediately. Getting your child to school BEFORE 7:45 A.M. is greatly appreciated since there are many things to be done before instruction begins like eating breakfast, sharpening pencils, getting organized, putting homework away, etc.
A free breakfast is provided to every child at Baker-Koonce. If you are planning for your child to eat the breakfast provided by the cafeteria, he/she must be at school by 7:45.
Parents will not eat lunch with their children during the 2022-2023 school year!
School lunches are NOT free for all students this year. The reduced lunch price will be $.40/meal and the regular lunch price will be $2/meal. Free/Reduced lunch applications were in the registration packet, but they can also be found in the Main Office at BK. You can access your child’s lunch account through the “Lunch Money Now” link on our District website under the “Parents” tab.
When sending money with your child to school, please enclose the money in an envelope and label the envelope with your child’s name, the teacher’s name and the purpose for the money (lunch, pictures, t-shirt, Book Fair, etc.).
There are two holidays that we will celebrate with a party this year: Christmas and Valentine’s. This will be for all three grade levels. We hope to plan several other fun events throughout the year, like a Fall Festival and Field Day.
Any time that your child is absent, a note is needed in the office explaining the reason for the absence. Any partial day absences that are documented with a doctor’s note will not count against the child’s attendance. Please turn in any doctor’s excuses when your child returns from an absence.
If you wish to attend a campus-wide event with your child (like a field trip), you must complete a volunteer form prior to the day of the event. This form was in the enrollment packet, but it can also be found in the Main Office at BK.
Prescription medications should NOT be sent with your child to school. Instead, you need to bring the medication to the nurse’s office with instructions. If your child rides the bus, give the medication to the bus driver and they will give it to a staff member upon arriving at school. The nurse will not administer non-prescription medications unless a doctor prescribes them.
PLEASE check your child’s Student Folder/Planner daily! This is the school-home communication system that we use to send important notes, school-wide monthly newsletters, behavior information, homework, and MUCH, MUCH more!
